It should be noted that there are times when one area of our lives needs more attention than the others do – for example, if our careers are not going well then it might be worth spending more time at work trying to get it back on track. The Wheel of Life (or Life Wheel) is a great tool to visually reflect the balance in your life. ![]() Even if we have a stressful job, it is important that we take care of ourselves by making sure that we are eating right, exercising often, taking breaks when needed, including time for ourselves in our busy days, and getting enough sleep. See Sharpen the Sawįor example, when we have an important project to do at work we might pay too much attention to work and not eat well or exercise. When we don’t deal with the important things, then they become urgent in the future but then it’s too late to deal with them (such as our health). We can put our physical or mental wellbeing “on hold” and cause long-term damage that throws us off balance. Suddenly, the urgent things take over the important things and we land up not focusing on things that are important but not urgent. This tool can be used any time you’re feeling off-balance, we recommend checking in regularly to see what tweaks can be made.When life gets busy or we are dealing with a specific crisis or difficulty, we can find ourselves off balance. With regular sessions, coaching keeps you accountable to your actions, giving you the motivation you need to follow through and keep going. Having someone objective like a coach to talk to can help you uncover what’s achievable for you and what would make the most impact.Ī coach can also support you with setting goals that will lead to real change. Once they’ve used the tool and identified areas to work on, the coach can offer some much welcomed support, guidance and accountability.įiguring out what steps you need to take to bring yourself back into balance can be tough. Ask yourself how you can prioritise these areas, what steps can you take to gently lift these scores and feel more balanced? It’s time to create an action plan to make this happen. Now you know which areas need attention and what your ideal score for those areas would be. What would it look like for them to be at an ideal score? Remember, you can return to this tool time and time again - it’s OK for priorities to change. Instead we would encourage you to think about what an ‘ideal’ score would be for each area.Ĭonsider your circumstances, what time and resources you have available and which areas you really want to focus on. While many of us may want to achieve a perfect score of 10 in each area, this is unrealistic and will likely only make us feel worse about ourselves as we pursue an impossibility. How does it look? Can you see where your balance may be off? Consider your ideal score for each area Simply connect the dots to form your circle. Mark your scores on each spoke with a dot or cross. Take time with this step and consider how much attention you’re currently giving each area. If everything in that area is perfect and you’re happy with it, it’s a 10, if there’s work needed, it’ll score lower. Now is the time to rate each area of your life on a scale from 0-10.
